Alaska Purchase Centennial collection, 1965-1967.

The Alaska Purchase Centennial Collection documents activities conducted in celebration of the centennial of the United States' purchase of Alaska from Russia. The main events were held from 27 May to 10 September 1967 at the official exposition site, Alaskaland (now Pioneer Park), in Fairbanks, Alaska. The collection contains material gathered by three different collectors: the William Cashen Centennial Papers; the Betzi Woodman Centennial Collection; and material from Earl Beistline's tenure on the Alaska Purchase Centennial Commission. These materials consist of news releases, bulletins, ephemera, planning and budget documents, material on site selection, and legislation related to the celebration. There is also information on an Alaska Centennial traveling exhibit put together by Dr. Erna Gunther, then of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Anthropology Department. The latter material primarily concerns the logistics of the exhibit.
